Editorial: I’ve Been Thinking About…Pentecost
We invite you to examine and enjoy in this issue of The Living Pulpit that focuses on observing, understanding and interpreting Pentecost. This somewhat neglected season of the church year with its focus on the Holy Spirit deserves more attention than it generally receives and preachers need help in both understanding and explaining this mysterious Spirit. Hence, we have gathered some new material and some old material to put together this issue.
Some articles that have appeared in earlier issues are being repeated because they deal with various perspectives on the Pentecost. New articles have been added to expand our previous coverage and to encourage fresh thoughts on the Pentecost season.
In future issues of The Living Pulpit we will be dealing with the following themes:
- July-September 2010 Healing and Wholeness
- October-December 2010 Jubilee
- January-March 2011 Conversion
- April-June 2011 Immigration
- July-September 2011 Reconciliation
- October-December 2011 Accountability
We are now seeking contributors for each of these themes. If you would be interested in writing a biblical or theological reflection upon one of these themes please contact me at krussell@nyts.edu for further details. Articles are due 30 days prior to publication. We are also looking for fresh voices in writing reflections upon the lectionary reading for each issue. I would love to hear from anybody who might be interested in contributing to the journal.
Please enjoy this issue of Pentecost! Some of the most provocative new theological work is being done around understanding the Holy Spirit. We hope our issue provides encouragement for deeper dialogue about the third person of the Trinity.
Sincerely,
Keith A. Russell
