The Road To Emmaus by Piety Choi.
(mixed media on canvas; 24"x18")
This picture takes the viewers to the famous gospel account of Jesus walking with two disciples on their way to Emmaus. The Third Evangelist tells us that they were joined by Jesus. It appears this took place almost by accident, but we get a certain sense of providence. The encounter is about to change the disciples' lives forever. The painting uses sands and acrylic to present a semi-abstract portrayal of the three who walk together. They are moving away from the dark shadow that represents the death of the innocent prophet. The long shadow underscores the bright light that beckons them ahead. They travel through the forest, not unlike the shadow of death of Psalm 23. Christ, who accompanies them, will open their eyes and warm their hearts strangely. The revelation of God's presence always takes us forward to the brightness of hope.—Piety Choi
